BTC to get a face-lift

I just wanted to let everyone know that the BTC will be getting a facelift here soon. I've been working on a proper template for the site. I will probably be releasing the theme as a Zen Sub-Theme on Drupal.org so that anyone out there that uses Drupal will be able to use the theme too.

I hope all is well with everyone, and I apologize for my lack of presence on the site. Work has been kicking my butt and the nice weather outside has made it hard to sit in front of the computer on such nice days.

I'm also planning on expandind the social networking and agregation features of the stie but that will have to wait untill BTC is look'n good.

Cheers,

throk

Small Updates

It's been a while since I've been able to work on the BTC, but I have been able to add two new features:

  1. World Clock – located on the right side bar the world clock should help us get an idea when our fellow Buzz Townies located around the world are sleeping and not able to chat on Twitter or Plurk.
  2. Timeline – Now this is cool, I just came across this module today; it is still very early and in an experimental state. Basically it displays content on a timeline according to when the were created. For now I've implemented page with the 200 most recent blog posts and general feed items. http://buzztowncenter.org/timeline The other timeline shows the 200 most recent blog posts on the BTC http://buzztowncenter.org/timeline/blogs

Other things I'm working on include improved syndication of content from various services such as Pownce, Twitter, Flickr ect. And I'm also working on a new fancy template to make the BTC looking even better.

Take it easy Buzz Town!

Buzz Town Center: Analytics from Day 1 to May 25th

Buzz Town Analytics

Hi everyone,

We've had an awesome 2 months (give or take) of Buzz Town Center. We couldn't have pulled this off without awesome buzztownies like you. I figured I would share some of the Google Analytics information with you all. I've attached two PDFs to this post. The first one is the general "dashboard" over view. And the second is the browser/OS stats. These stats are from March 25th to May 25th.

  • 1,584 Total Visits
  • 11,433 Page Views
  • Each visitor viewed an average of 7.22 pages per visit.
  • The most popular browser used was Firefox.

There's a lot more stats, so go ahead and check out the attached PDFs.

Again, development will be slow/non-existant till mid June. However in the mean time it would be awesome if you all can help out with the handbook, FAQs, and post bugs/suggestions and such in the forums.

Thanks for all your help Buzz Town!

Buzz Town is the coolest place!

SO SAY WE ALL

Development Slowdown :-(

Crazy Monkey

Hey Buzz Town,

Well the growth of BTC has been awesome and the site has come along way the 2 months since the site has been online. Many of you have probably already noticed the activity of development on the site has dropped off in the last two weeks or so; this has been due in large part to it being crazy busy at my day job.

This month I am getting ready for a "trade-show battle royale," well not really I just have a trade-show that I have to run a booth at every week in the month of June. Since I will be on the opposite side of this continent and around the world, I might not even be online much at all.

On the bright side I'm really hoping that I might be able to meet up with some Buzz Townies while I'm out and about. So if any of you happen to be in the following cities, hit me up. Lets grab a beer or coffee!

Here's my schedule:

  • June 1-5 San Diego, CA
  • June 8-14 Stockholm, Sweden
  • June 23-26 Washington DC/Arlington (I'll have a car so I can make it around pretty easily)

Thanks again everyone!

Buzz Town Citizen stuck in the Pacific Ocean!

There were some errors popping up today, I just deleted a few files and it seemed to fix stuff? Why question it right?

Lost at sea

But more pressing is the fact that a the1337loser, a Buzz Town Citizen has apparently been "lost" at sea for a few weeks now. At this moment JaMoTo is being redirected to aid in the immediate attempt to help the1337loser to get up to date on the podcasts, there is no doubt that the1337loser has fallen behind on BOL Podcasts since being lost at sea. This is precicely why JaMoTo will be fitted with a refirbished 2nd generation iPod filled with all the current podcasts. So no need to panic JaMoTo is on the case!

I'm sure the1337loser is safe and sound on solid ground.

Update: Big Things and Little Things Too!

So I started writing this post yesterday, I was just about done when I got distracted by a co-worker walking into my office. So I forgot about it for a little while. Right after I was done talking with him, I started shutting everything down so I could get the heck outta dodge. And yep, I totally lost the post! Ugh... So here we go again.

Changes:

  • Added "Digg Style"  voting to Blogs and Shared Items.
  • Added the Buzz Town Elections page where candidates can add themselves up for election. This was mostly a proof of concept move, however if you or anyone add themselves up there your information and votes will not be lost if any changes are made to how the elections will be done and what not.
  • Added some new views for the Blogs and Shared Items pages. Now there are list views and "Most Buzzed" views (we may need to change that for legal reasons??....)

To Do:

Update: Planet BOL

Well I went ahead and got Planet BOL up, it's basically an aggregation of just about everything I could find as far as BOL goes.

I know I need to go and add a few things off of CNET but it's just about everything there.

So if you fel really adventurous you could get the RSS of the Planet BOL Stream and have everything BOL in one stream: http://buzztowncenter.org/aggregator/rss

Update: Small Changes

I didn't get too much done, however I added an "Agenda" to the event calendar. Unfortunately the module I'm using for the calendar is in between releases, but I'm confident I should have something up there in about a week.

I got the Shared Items section ready for more feeds to be pulled in. I also made a List view so that the items can be browsed more quickly.

I should have time to really get things going on this site this week. There are still lots of usability issues that I must first address before adding new features. I really don't want to get ahead of myself, however It's bound to happen!

Update: Google Shared Items

I created a Google Shared Items Page: Shared Items

This is basically just an aggregation of Google Shared Items.

You can add your shared items by clicking on Edit Profile

The Edit Profile section is a little dumb b/c there is no way to skip the "importing blog feed" section. So for now I'm going to place the "General Feeds" section in front to hopefully combat this problem for now.

Site Update: Buzztownie Map & Twitter Changes

 I added the Buzztownie Map.

User's can set their location to show where they live. It's just a point on a map so it won't show the "exact" location of where they live.  I'm not trying to get anyone murdered by a psycho killer or anything. B/c that would be bad.

The Twitter content for the site has changed. This might be a semi-temporary fix. I'm not sure of the exact final way/how to properly integrate Twitter, but for now I guess this will do. If you want to be followed on this website then you need to be added as a friend to buzzbot, to get added as a friend to buzzbot just leave a comment on the twitter page.

Much more to come...
