Buzz Town Center is moving to Ning

I have had a lot of fun and learned a lot from setting up Buzz Town Center. I know my schedule won't be allowing me keep up with the site like I want to. So I decided to switch over to a Ning site which should lesson the amount of work that I'll have to do. It should also be easier for others to help me adminster.

I'm not really sure if there is a place for Buzz Town Center. My initial ideas were to have it help to more connect everyone together easily and serve as a place where meet-ups and local groups could work together to organize each other.

Here is a link directly to the signup page.

Update: Import Tumblr and Enhanced Events

The new Tumblr page works pretty much like how the dashboard view looks on Tumblr. To get your tumble blog up there just create a Tumblr Feed

A few weeks ago I added more advanced features for setting up and scheduling events. This spurred on by the LA Buzz Out Loud Meetup that PhatEmoKid spearheaded.

Fun stuff

UPDATE 3-26-09: Switched over to Shadowbox which works much better, I used it on my personal site and show how to use it with Flickr slideshows

I spent way too much time setting up the Fancy Zoom lightbox like effect. Fancy Box is that cool effect that you've probably seen on Apple's website. The cool thing about it is it will happen automatically. So if you have an image that links directly to another image, the linked image will come up all fancy like:

Pardon my dust

Big changes are underway.

I know lot's of things are broken on the site right now so don't bother me with them. ha ha.

I'll make another post once most of the new features and functions are set in place.

Thanks,
throk

BTC to get a face-lift

I just wanted to let everyone know that the BTC will be getting a facelift here soon. I've been working on a proper template for the site. I will probably be releasing the theme as a Zen Sub-Theme on Drupal.org so that anyone out there that uses Drupal will be able to use the theme too.

I hope all is well with everyone, and I apologize for my lack of presence on the site. Work has been kicking my butt and the nice weather outside has made it hard to sit in front of the computer on such nice days.

I'm also planning on expandind the social networking and agregation features of the stie but that will have to wait untill BTC is look'n good.

Cheers,

throk

Small Updates

It's been a while since I've been able to work on the BTC, but I have been able to add two new features:

  1. World Clock – located on the right side bar the world clock should help us get an idea when our fellow Buzz Townies located around the world are sleeping and not able to chat on Twitter or Plurk.
  2. Timeline – Now this is cool, I just came across this module today; it is still very early and in an experimental state. Basically it displays content on a timeline according to when the were created. For now I've implemented page with the 200 most recent blog posts and general feed items. http://buzztowncenter.org/timeline The other timeline shows the 200 most recent blog posts on the BTC http://buzztowncenter.org/timeline/blogs

Other things I'm working on include improved syndication of content from various services such as Pownce, Twitter, Flickr ect. And I'm also working on a new fancy template to make the BTC looking even better.

Take it easy Buzz Town!

iTunes Store Australia Steps up with TV Shows

Australian iTines users can now download TV shows from the Australian iTunes store. You can purchase songs from such networks as ABC Studios (USA Network), Nine Network, Australian Broadcasting Corporation, MTV and the Diseny Channel.

Many well knows TV Shows like Lost, Grey's Anatomy, South Park and some aussie shows like Sea Patrol are avalable. All shows cost AU$2.99 each and you can buy full Series of some shows.

Some of the major Australian Networks are missing like TEN and Seven but they may come in the future.

In comparison, the US pays US$1.99 which is AU$2.09.

Adobe Buzzword VS Google Docs

Adobe Buzzword is an up and coming challenger to Google Docs. So for your online word processing pleasure I will now compare them, and decide which one I think is the better choice.

Adobe Buzzword:

Design:
Buzzword is a flash based application that looks stunning. It's clean, crisp and makes it much easier to use. It is dark and vibrant using many colours and icons to help you find your way.

Editing:
Adobe has taken a completely different path than Google when it comes to editing a document. Instead of being presented with the basic tools like Font, font size, bold, italic, underline, alignment, lists (Bullets and numbers etc) all in one bar adobe has given you different tabs for; Font, Paragraph, List, Image, Table and Comment. They have made it simpler (In my opinion) to find options and tools. Buzzword also has one thing that Google Docs lacks, instant spell checking. If you type a word incorrectly in Buzzword a red dashed line will appear under it, just click that line and chose the correct spelling.

Look Out for more Blog Posts

Hey!

I, like Throk, will also be bloging more (or starting). So look out for my posts!
